Sites and Shops / Static sites / Dynamic sites / Current work / Project Managment www.lawnguesthouse.co.uk As is often the case the original design has proven strong but some pages are starting to become overloaded visually and in page weight as various changes and additions are made. Various pages will be split into two or more in the coming weeks. www.canadian-dreamcatchers.com A later compression program should be
used on the images than was available in 1999 but the client is happy
as it is and declines further updates. This was the first of the web sites
that I termed 'client enabled'. This is not a true dynamic web site but
uses SSI to place a Word document into certain pages thus giving an update
facility via FTP from the client's office. www.travplan.co.uk Like Dreamcatchers this site used the SSI of a word document to give some update facility. www.jwdj.co.uk The initial design was quite ambitious and in partnership with JW. His time has not however been available very often and so it languishes rather. also a small site for the lovely sally. www.scribbling-shop.co.ukA promotional site now looking a bit clunky but still providing useful leads and contacts for the client. Parts are of frame based pages; perhaps not the best solution but the focus was to keep the visitor on the web site, not allow them to stray elsewhere. Also 'client-enabled' using SSI. This site will likely convert to a dynamic site in the near future with a small e-commerce system attached. www.overline.com The pre-ordering and support designs for this site could prove really interesting with hundreds of configurations of telephone systems and dozens of tariffs and plans. Ah well ~ maybe next year. www.serv.org.uk The original design presentation was quite complex providing a full email system for members, on-line news, polls, competitions and of course a large corporate sponsors area. Sadly this has yet to come about. www.gribble-brewery.co.uk While the concepts all remain valid it has proven too large a commitment in time for the publican who also manages other public houses. One of the quietest web sites on my servers. www.business-efficiency.co.uk Interesting in that this site was the first in which I used floating menus. They are appropriate here while in many sites I think they can be a nuisance. www.lsi-specialists.co.uk Learnt a lot putting this web site together. There are things I would differently if building it today - CFML pages for a start. It has received a twice yearly review amongst which are suggestion for on-line booking, a more complete distance learning system, business student support and a small e-commerce segment for examination fees and course deposits. Although displaying many languages the budget has not been available to make all meta languages match the one displayed. www.return-to-practice.co.uk There is little to be changed on this site, perhaps a better BBS system and an improved email system. www.itc-owners.co.uk A simple clean site that has few visitors but produces a steady stream of potential properties for inclusion in the main PHP based web site www.indiv-travellers.com |
Developer Toolbox. realistic search engine marketing & promotion Boring Profile: Static web sites still have their place. The rush to be dynamic is not justifed for all content and all client purposes. Dynamic sites take longer to build and despite best intentions when published often recieve little updating. Why spend the extra cash if the system is not going to be used? Best to prove the site works first, then consider allocating staff time and converting to perhaps just a few news pages before going the whole way. Short Profile:
